Prof Daniel Esser holds the RAEng/Selex ES Chair in Laser Device Physics & Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, focussing on diode-pumped solid-state lasers and devices in the near and mid-infrared spectral range. His research interests include significant power and energy scaling of mode-locked, Q-switched and continuous-wave solid-state lasers, by leading a research team to develop and implement the modern laser gain materials, resonator concepts, optical pumping schemes, laser amplifier architectures and novel manufacturing methods. He is member of the Management Group of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Laser-based Production Processes, responsible for Laser Technology. Prof Esser is a proud member of the Global Young Academy, the "Voice of Young Scientist around the World."
